Evolution of Low Cost Airlines

Over the past 20 years, there were several low-cost airlines identified as the most successful airlines in Europe according to the number of transported passengers. Theoretical part of the thesis has several objectives. It is an analysis of the airlines success it selves as well as an analysis of their gradual development in low cost air travel within Europe and description of the low-cost aviation market in Europe in terms of the history and competitiveness. The practical part which is the main objective of the thesis is an overall analysis of the differences in business models of low-cost carriers and the impact of these differences on the development of their economic and operational performance.

This thesis analyses the position of Travel Service, Ltd. on the Czech aviation market. Furthermore, it also tries to point out the main aspects which were important for the successful development of Travel Service and tries to forecast the future development of this company. The theoretical part contains the history, evolution and position of aviation. It also includes current trends in aviation and the position of aviation in tourism. International organizations and conventions in civil aviation, the deregulation process of air transportation are discussed in this part as well. The analytical part describes the company Travel Service, Ltd., its origin and important events in the history of the company. In this part are analysed economic data, business strategy and internal statistics. There are described the main competitors in the Czech Republic and also in Europe and they are compared with Travel Service. The plans of the company for the future and its next expected evolution are also mentioned here.

The thesis describes the features and history of low-cost carriers. It also includes comparison of these carriers and full service carriers. The ambition of the whole thesis is not only to follow the trend of low-cost carriers but also the trend of the development of those carriers. As a result, the part of the study is an analysis of low-cost strategic model and a suggestion of new classification for the low-cost carriers as well as comparison of two region from the same perspective.

Změny v marketingové strategii leteckých společností v Evropě způsobené růstem nízkonákladových leteckých společností v Evropě

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the changes to marketing strategy of airline companies in Europe due the proliferation of low-cost carriers in Europe. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the theoretical part the marketing strategy framework is established by reviewing the latest literature on marketing theory and its application to the airline industry. The second chapter provides the historical background and shows the specifics of the airline industry in order to determine when the proliferation of low-cost carriers in Europe occurred. It also analyzes the impact the proliferation had on the business operations of the network carriers by looking at the changes to different elements of the marketing mix. Finally the third chapter summarizes the authors research on consumer behavior in the airline industry. The research was conducted through a quantitative questionnaire and it investigates consumers perception of price and brand awareness.

The goal of the submitted thesis: "Low-cost air transport in the period of current economic crisis" is to analyze current low-cost air transport. The first part describes the air traffic and concetrates on the low-cost carriers. The second part analyzis the low-cost airlines in the different regions. The third part deals with the world economic crises and how it affected the low-cost carriers. The last part is focused on the future development of low-cost air transport.
Low-cost air transport development in Prague

Bachelor thesis deals with the topic of low-cost air transportation in the region of capital city Prague and issue of its future development. It offers closer understanding of characteristic features of aviation industry and identifies factors that positively affect its growth. Furthermore, a judgement on new international airport construction project near Prague is presented. Theoretical part describes basic knowledge about airports, their typology and operation strategies and continues with market power analysis, which greatly influence level of competition among neighbouring airports. Explanation of different airline carrier types is also a subject of this part.The beginning of practical part studies past trends of air transportation and its particular segments at Ruzyně airport and defines catchment area belonging to the airport. Latter part then continues with mathematical model for predictions on future low-cost air transport volumes. Lastly, the work contains 3 different scenarios about possible overall traffic at planned Vodochody airport.
